The Rosa Mystica Consort (formerly known as The Assumption Singers) is a vocal consort specialising in Renaissance polyphonic music and plainchant. It was originally formed in order to sing for the Soho Masses in the church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St Gregory in Warwick Street, Soho, but is now fully independent and performs liturgically for various churches in and around London in the Roman Catholic and Anglican traditions. The Consort also performs in concerts in London.
Rosa Mystica is a Medieval title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary whose prominence in Medieval and Renaissance Catholic worship led to an extraordinary wealth of devotional music which forms much of the heart of the repertoire of the Consort.
Our singers are a mixture of professional and top level amateur singers and we sing with two or three voices to a line. We work as a chamber consort with no director and all members take responsibility for ensemble and interpretation.
Singers who are interested in joining The Rosa Mystica Consort should contact Celia Gardiner. We are looking for singers with experience of chamber singing, sound vocal technique and good sight reading skills.
